Sunday was Mother’s Day and I hope all of you mother’s out there got spoiled and received a well-deserved break! However, I think we should not have to wait a whole year to get breakfast in bed, dinner out and children (husbands) that willingly take over tedious household chores. Mother’s Day once a week – I would vote for that!
During my routine physical, my doctor ordered the usual blood tests, including vitamin D levels. When the results came back, I was told to reduce my intake because my blood levels of 70 ng/ml were too high…..really? Is there such a thing as too much vitamin D?
In the west, spring officially starts on March 21st, when the length of day and night are exactly the same. It is the season of beginnings, of growth and expansion. Nature is waking up from winter’s dormancy, the days are getting longer and warmer. The seeds planted last fall are beginning to break through the earth and bloom. At the same time, we are invigorated with spring’s renewal and feel energized, hopeful and make plans for the year, and maybe for our lives.
There are five elements that make up the foundation of Chinese Medicine theory. These are: Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire. Each of these elements is associated with a specific organ, taste, smell, sound, color, climate, and season which helps us relate to the world around as well as to our place in it and interconnectedness with it.
Pain, and especially chronic pain, is by far the most common motivator that brings people into my practice. Of course, since I work out of a Chiropractor’s office it is only natural to see a fair number of painful muscular-skeletal conditions.
Mother Nature provides us with so many wonderful healing herbs and I am happy to see that the interest in herbal medicine is growing. In recent years, Elderberry and Echinaecia have been widely promoted as immune boosting remedies and there are enough “how to” videos open the internet that teach ways to make herbal remedies in your own kitchen.
September marks the end of summer, fall is just around the corner and this is the time when we start thinking – or at least should be – about giving our immune system a boost to prevent viral respiratory; from the common cold to more harmful conditions such as pneumonia and COVID. The best way to stay ahead of the game, stay healthy and strong is to kick up and support your body’s own defense: your IMMUNE SYSTEM!
We all have experienced it – that unhappy stomach after too much indulgence or after eating a meal that was too spicy, greasy or sweet. I am talking about “Heartburn”. Heartburn is only the symptom of what is technically called “Reflux”- a condition in which your stomach content comes back into your throat, causing burning in the chest and/or a sour taste in your mouth.
